Hello. I've just joined this group.
I read the book quite a few years ago and got lost in it; felt like I was alive in it. It was a wonderful experience. I could almost taste the experience. When I heard there was going to be a film out, I ordered it from my local shop and waited with great excitement, as it meant I could share this wonderful experience with my family. We arranged a sunday lunch the weekend after I got the film.
I was too excited to wait so thought I'd have a preview.
I can't believe what a let down it was compared to the book. I'm not an actor or a movie director or a writer, but this film has, for me, destroyed the essense of the book!! Where did some of those actors come from??
I did think... - is it me?... am I expecting too much? so I put it on on the sunday for my family too watch....... The comments started by the time we got to the bit where that main character met that girl for lunch.....
The first thing they noticed was the cheezy acting, then the " made for tv" Quality etc etc!! I couldn't bare it so I said, " oh dear... it's like this all the way through" and we turned it off!!!! I am so disappointed with this film, expecially as it cost me £18 and I borrowed the book and drunk in the story!!! I do so hope that if there is a second film, A lot more effort is made to put the story across....It's too fruitful and meaningful to be presented in such a terrilbe way.... not a good vessel at all.

Hello anq,
welcome to the site man, with the film i believe everybody will be dissapointed, to a certain extent as i was to.
please remember that you are one of the lucky ones who has read the book so you can fill in th gaps, ufortunateley you seem to have noticed its failure to convey the message, but remember a lot of people arent ready to accept the idea.
you maybe thought that the world was about to change completley, but it will happen as people grasp the real issues involved, ithink james did the best as he could have done at the time, with money and the amount of people that were involved in the making.
try not to be to dissapointed with it as we still understand what its about.
my family to were dissapointed with it, but i did my best to fill in the gaps for them. agin welcome to the site and enjoy typing your opinions down and getting some very deep answers to them, bye for now man. _________________ EYEMAN |

hello Eyeman. Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I am lucky that I have read the book and - on looking deeper into my experience now, with the film, I know that it is happening how it should and when the time is right for my family to grasp the essense of the message, they will. And I am also aware that James did the best he could with the knowledge ( and money) that he had at the time, just as we all do. I just hope that if a second film is to be made, that it is a huge improvement on the first. (but then..maybe it is not the time for a film to have a huge impact) I have the message loud and clear, just want to share it - probably like you did, with family. But.... it is obviously not the time for that... One of my kids has the film now. Their scart lead is broke but they said, when the time is right for them to watch it, a scart lead will find it's way into their home....so you can see, they are very open to what ever is coming..already.
I never thought for one minute that the world was about to change completely!!
anyway, nice to hear from someone in here. Don't know why I joined really. It wasn't just to have a moan about the film. Guess maybe I wanted to hear others opinions. I've seen the energy since I was a kid and felt it too, so I was half way in when I read the book. all the best

I didn't read the books first. I saw the movie two weeks ago and then watched it daily for a week. Its funny but I bought two copies of the book back in the 90's and kept one without reading it and sent the other to my mother. When she got it she said that she was actually reading a borrowed copy of it and now she had her own copy and told me the book was about synchronicities or something like that.
But after seeing the movie I dusted off my old copy and read it plus I got the other books. I am on the Shambhala one now.
I prefer the movie but thats most likely because I experienced it first. |

I guess as long as one is able to experience this story - it doesn't matter which way it comes in. I have watched the film three times now, but found it soo difficult. How wonderful though, that you and your Mum have both experienced it. You must have a good relationship with your Mum. I've only ever seen the first book, but will look out for some others now.
Have to go and try and work out what last nights dream was all about now.....
all the best

hi ang
i was just wondering about what i had wrote to you last week man and after looking at it again i realise now that i may have been a bit presumptuous of what you had written. i would like to appologise for that, i to would hope the next film will come across a little better aswell. what other books from the celestine series have you read, ive almost finished all of them now, im just waiting to get god and the evolving universe. anyway i just wanted to say sorry if i had annoyed you in anyway, and maybe forgive my choice of words, as sometimes they can come across in a different way to what i actually mean. see you later man. _________________ EYEMAN |

Hello again. I've had trouble getting back on this site, thus a late response. No need to apologise. I wasn't offended at all.
I haven't read any of the other books but I have just watched the film, The secret and was blown away by the way it was presented and was thinking it might be a good idea for all the people involved in that film and the making of the celestine prophecy - to get together.... What lovely stuff they all put across.
