Prayer for a Good Death
Great Spirit, I am unworthy;
My species has disgraced itself.
Of all the species that live, or have ever lived,
Mine is the lowliest.
Lower than the flowers who fill the air with sweet pollen,
Lower than the trees who encircle the Earth with their roots,
Lower than the insects, rulers of Earth
Since the beginning of time,
Lower than the darting fish,
Lower than the soaring birds,
Lower than the four-legged creatures,
Who are the beating heart of the living Earth.
Great Spirit, my shame is as deep as the ocean,
And my sadness is unbearable.
I pray for enlightenment,
But fear that my prayer is too late.
Great Spirit, if this be so, then I pray for extinction.
Let my species become extinct, and vanish from the Earth.
Let my loins be barren,
Let my seed not sprout,
Let the race of men fall like leaves.
Let my fields grow wild,
Let my fences crumble,
Let my cities turn to dust, and become forests.
Let the grass drink my blood;
Let my body be food for worms.
Great Spirit, let me die, that the Earth may live.

"IT IS DISTANCE AND FOR THAT REASON DIFFICULT BUT IS NOT SO DISTANCE"
"Global Warming": If I had a child today. My grand child born today will be old as I am today 2062. It is not far away in terms of generations of people that are around. You can care about this issue because of the people you know. If not what is the use of having children as they won't be able to survive because of our greed and matter worshipping. We are in the fossil field era of human history. If human kind is going to have a future on this planet it is absolutly inevitable that we are going to find a new energy source or humankind is on a destructive suicidal path to oblivion with the "ECOCIDE." President Bush abandoning the "Kyoto Protocol" that aims at reducing industrial emission link to "Global Warming"but in his statement says, " The hell with the future generations. I and my corporate buddies already have ours and the hell with the planet. I have to take care of the American economy and my elite backers of industry. We follow the "Vile Maxim" of the Masters of Mankind: All for ourselves and nothing for other people for we want ours now and to enjoy it now!"
It is distance when the environment is finally forced to file for bankruptcy because its resource base have been polluted, degraded, dissipated and irretrievably compromised and the economies of the world will go down with it...so what does that say about the future of "Capitalism" as we know it.
Human happiness, and certainly human fecundity are not as important as a wild and healthy planet. There are scientists who remind us that people are a part of nature, but it isn't true. Somewhere along the line--at about a billion years ago maybe half that we as a species quit the contract and became a cancer. We have become a plague upon ourselves and upon the "Earth". It is cosmically unlikely that the developed world will choose to end its orgy of fossil (U.S.A., China, India etc). Energy consumption and the "Third World" its suicidal consumption of landscape is devastating to the eco-system...until such time as Homo Sapiens should decide to rejoin nature - some of us can only hope for the right virus to come along for growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the Cancer Cell*. Good planet are hard to find. David M. Graber - National Park Service
*Cancer Cell: It is as if cancer cells have been heavily indoctrinated with the ideology of individualism and personal achievement:
Imagine a mass of cancerous tissue and the cells of which enjoyed consciousness...would they not be full of self-congratulatory sentiments at their independence than their more advanced level of development..their rapid rate of growth (GNP)? Would they not sneer at their more primitive cousins who were bound into a static and unfree existence with limited aspirations subject to heavy group constraint and obviously "Going Nowhere"? Would they not rejoice in their control over their destiny and cheer the conversion of more and more normal cells as convincing proof of the validity of their own way of life? Would they not in fact feel increasingly triumphant right up to the moment the organism on which they fed expired? |

First of all, I think you're preaching to the choir.
I'm sorry that you think that human happiness is less important that a "wild and healthy planet." Maybe we need to re-define happiness in your eyes...
Happiness to me is
sacrifice- the sacrifice of my will to the needs of others,
family- and knowing that I can be with them forever
faith in the afterlife and the bonds of love I will share there
if you know you exist then you do, now and forever into the future
Break free of your physical attachments!
The Earth was born, baptized (in the great flood), will be sanctified (by fire), will die, and will be re-born (resurrected) as we all will be!
This does not mean that we shouldn't take care of the Earth now.
My body will die someday, but I take care of it now- and that's important.
Trust in God- there is a plan. He knows what He's doing! Cheer up!
Be forgiven and let's get to work! _________________ Sister G0$he |

First off I will say that I get the point. It is becoming apparent that the sheer volume of people alive today and their consumption of fossil fuels to survive is taxing our planet. It is also becoming apparent that it is imperative that we adjust our way of life to avoid a cataclysmic ecological disaster. However, I am unable to endorse an article, poem, statement or whatnot whose sole purpose is to send prayer energy for the demise and destruction of humanity. These types of articles do not encourage or support change but rather create and perpetuate an atmosphere of debilitating shame. Although I am aware that the intent is to shake the sleeping masses out of their complacency the fatality of the approach will actually have the opposite affect. Passing judgment and condemnation on humanity as unsalvageable will only in essence invoke guilt and self-loathing in the reader about being alive. As a result the reader will either become crippled by their negative emotions or worse still will take on an attitude of defiance and rebellion in retaliation for being judged and told what to do. So though the intent may have been to arouse a call to action for the saving of our planet, a condemning approach will actually stymie the process instead of encouraging and propelling the much needed change. Because the one truth that is self-evident is what you put out is what you get back. If the approach is negative the results will be less than satisfactory but if the approach is positive the response will be success.
So let me ask those of you who endorse these articles in the manner in which they were written, are you willing to totally give up your way of life? Are you truly willing to stop washing your cloths and dishes so as not to use hot water? Stop using your stoves and grills? Throw out all computers, TVs, radios and appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, and microwaves? Stop using electricity to see at night or heat in the winter? Boycott all air travel and take public transportation where ever you go every time always? Or better still ride your bicycle everywhere even in winter? Are you truly interested in living in a tent eating shrubs and leaves to avoid all manner of C02 emissions? If you cannot truthfully answer yes to all of these questions then it is not your place to judge. So instead of putting a curse on humanity praying for a plague, why not pray for understanding? Why not pray that people start to see? Pray that the big oil companies invest their buckets of cash into building an infrastructure based on healthier fuel alternatives. Pray that the media does more to get the message to the masses so the masses can start demanding that fuel alternatives become more widely available. Send thanks to the countless scientist working tirelessly to figure out how to save the environment. And send a thanks to yourself and the people and countries who are already making the effort to enact these changes. Instead of tearing humanity down lets build on the efforts already out there to save our planet. Build on them so that they snowball into a movement with a life of its own.
Are the amount of people currently alive today leading healthier lifestyles resulting in longer life spans taxing the planet? It is possible and probable if we donít improve our energy usage we may indeed be headed down a path of cataclysmic earth changes. But whatever path we wind up down the planet will live on. Mother Nature has been through environmental shifts before and survived. She survived because she is amazingly resilient. She is amazingly resilient because we designed her that way. Every organism that is a part of this planet, from the trees, animals and bugs, to the grass, sand and rocks, to the houses, cars and appliances are all a manifestation of our energy to create an environment for us to learn and to grow. As much as we need to learn balance on an individual basis the Earth already knows how to achieve this. If humanityís energy usage continues to create an unstable environmental then the Earth may feel the need to shake us off to survive and it seems this may already have started. But history has shown that the planet will survive because as species die out and become extinct new species will form to take their place. But we are the ones who, if we donít make the effort to change, will loose out because and only because we will loose our opportunity to learn the lessons of Earth for a time as the planet takes time to rest and renew. But all energy is indestructible. The planet and humanity will live on its just that they may, at least for a while, be manifest in a different form.
When all is said and done it will become abundantly clear that there is a time, purpose, and place for everything. What we and the planet are currently experiencing is part of a grander master plan. We have been given the opportunity to learn the lessons of how to live in harmony with ourselves and the planet. Our physical environment is a mirror image of our current state of mind. We may be currently failing as is evident in our climate and humanitarian downfalls but that doesnít mean that all hope is lost. The seeds have already been planted for healthier alternatives in how we produce and utilize our personal and physical energy. And those are the only views, ideals and prayers that I choose to champion and pass on to all who cross my path because they are our only means of salvation. A salvation I truly believe we are capable of achieving.
Sincerely,
Michelle |

Hi All,
I believe that the outer is mirroring the inner. We are feeling unsure and chaotic inside and major shifts are taking place in our thinking. This is mirrored in mother nature. We are all changing and so is the earth/planet. It is only through tests we are aware of what we do not know and what we do know. We are become more conscious of our ways of living and its effects on mother earth. I'd say this is a good thing. There was a news report the other day about CFC and how the whole in the ozone layer is now not getting any bigger due to global changes in using CFC in aerosols and fridges. I think this has sent a strong message to us all our actions can change things.
I also believe that when we are unconscious of what we do that we are sent consequences to grow. For all we know the people who died in the tsunami were souls who chose to die so we could learn. Water cleanses.
In my experience negative behaviour just mirrors the fear within. We truly have forgot how beautiful we are. There is much good work going on by writers such as James Redfield to stimulate thought. Carl Rogers who changed the way therapy was carried out and Gerrard Egan to name but a few have supported people in change.
I am truly glad to be part of this grand plan. I heard recently that many souls have chosen to incarnate now because of the chance to grow the most. The lessons in consciousness are rich.
Michelle I like your attitude. We all know criticism that is attacking and not constructive only makes for guilt and guilt and shame cause more pain.
I send love to you and wish you well and I am sorry you feel so angry but blame and shame won't change a thing.
Blessings
