I post this out of a sudden curiosity as to whether it's a commonly experienced phenomena or not. Lately (in the space of the last year or so), I've started to notice that I've been dreaming on multiple layers of awareness - but only remembering one layer of dreams most of the time.

These dreams seem to come from a much more obscure part of the Self than the usual in-depth dreams that I experience, and carry a much stronger sense of meaning and a very clear message when I do remember them. The dreams are often remembered when a memory from another dream triggers recognition of the presence of the 2nd layer dream, but can be difficult to fully recall. The only message I recall (the last of these I had was a fair while ago), was to do with my moderately distant future, but I believe that each of the messages I partially recalled was also related to the future in some way.

Does anyone else experience this type of dreaming? There's no sense of overlap - it's as though one is using two sets of eyes to watch seperate screens or read different books without breaking concentration on either parcel of information.

you know it is weird you would mention that, because i do have those kind of dream.. i never really took them seriously.. i was partialy afraid of admitting them cuz at some point they hold deep message... they hold your feelings about particular things...
what you should do.. is at the moment you wake up.. write your dream down.. and write evrythg you saw heard understood memorise... that way u can recompose your dream and try tof ind the message that it conveys...
it may sound stupid..

Hmm... I should, but usually shortly after I awaken from these I go back to sleep, and another dream starts... I tend to wake up several times before I actually get up at the start of the day. I think I'll dig out my voice recorder from wherever it's hidden itself >.>

My most recent dreams of this nature, from the snatches I can recall, had more layers... possibly this phenomena relates to the concept of quarternary thought? I recall coming across the term in a fictional book not too long ago, and haven't pursued the lead on it as yet. But the basic concept is that of being more than one aspect of perception at one time, if I recall correctly... essentially, being able to perceive from multiple seperate points (such as through different people) as an individual.

Might be time to dig into it a little...

Thank you for the reply, and for the reminder ^^

Hello SW,

I have developed the perspective that consciousness is a separate dimension. And as we begin to take notice of our dreams, and practice at paying attention, our brains become better at being aware of and organizing all the information that we have always been receiving. This dimension is most obvious when we are in a dream, maybe as someone else or something that is not usual, but we KNOW what the deal is; we are conscious of what it is really about. No different from when we feel connected to someone consciously and know what they are talking about even though we aren't really listening to, or understand, the words they are using. Thus, my perspective of how, through meditative practice, people begin to experience greater conscious awareness and all that astral traveling and so forth... it is because they are opening up to that dimension of consciousness.

Or something like that.. I hope that made sense. It made perfect sense in my head. Wink

Have fun,
Craig
