Hey Deep blu:
1. On the surface - I believe prayer is the request and meditation is listening for the answer. Usually an answer I find I had long before I formulated the prayer. *ha*
2. I believe that meditation is a conscious uniting with all of us - tuning into the highest good and prayer is seeing that highest good and reaching for it. Meditation is also exercise and helps build up a spiritual muscle we need in good working order to know what to pray for.
3. Prayer may be the thing we do for "others" - like we could actually be separate *wink* - and meditation we do for "ourselves."
Maybe all or none of these - but what fun to speculate and experiment - eh?
I am not sure - I am making it up and I make it up the way I like. I just love doing both and recently I have been doing a lot of them. Acceptance and love from the universe is really feeling pretty great when I take the time to listen and ask to be of service.
What a gift to me - I am one of the luckiest people I know.
Enjoy!

hi deepbluc,
For me prayer is a focused connection to God energy within me to universal God energy of all knowing...visual divine order for the highest good togo to the people or the land..strength for the prayer to walk in support...wisdom for the prayer to be released in answers they will feel, hear from within. not my will but God's will I trust.
meditation is a state of listening, being deep within or transported somewhere..teachers talk..give me sign, symbols, messages..that pertain to releasing, relaxing, learning inner truth with out judgement.
meditation is also laying in silence with the cells of my body. loving them in silence..then moving into the chakras to clean and clear them..after that i just lay in a colorful balance..feeling like i just took a shower..wrapping and sealing myself in whitelight..my body lays in the silence of energy wellness that envelopes my total being.
blessings,

Meditation is the calling for the self.
Prayer is the calling for the other and performing miracles.
Meditation aligns the action with motivation with the Self - Being your Self. Motivated prayer is carried out by more intent I guess. This applies to telepathic phenomena. It's not obsessive prayer, it's content. There fore the intent is pure and doesn't contradict itself energetically. It doesn't call for itself for the self is already found.
Prayer is also a form of seeking of God. If God answers to your prayer, you've found Him in your prayer.

Ajar,
We meditate and then we pray...
We meditate, notice our thoughts, pray for guidance and then act...
I'll give that a go,
Thank you.

| i'd say it depends on what you are focusing on as you either pray or meditate. I'm a big fan of an all encompassing one so in the big picture prayer IS meditation. OM can be translated as the pure energy of the divine body of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas. so since they are probably both praying AND meditating then if you are meditating OM then i'd say you're doing both. I do 22 rounds of mantra yoga daily and find it to be quite peaceful and mind-consuming. I've probably performed 700,000 + rounds of a laymans buddhist mantra - OM MANI PEME HUNG or OM MANI PADME HUM you can perform this one with out any empowerments or anything. another good one is the medicine buddha mantra - the tibetan goes TADYATA OM BHEKANDZE BHEKANDZE MAHA BHEKANDZE RADZA SOHA and is said to be especially good for mental illness too! |
