For the past two weeks, my new short wave radio turns on by itself. Each of the four distinct t times this has occurred, I have been thinking about Appalachian culture. I have also wondered why Cherokee culture isn't a bigger part of this.
Yesterday as I was reading a response to my Letter to the Editor concerning how Appalachian culture often excludes outsiders in a local newspaper (the respondent chose not to respond to what I wrote other than to one up my quote thinking theirs was better) my thoughts turned to the fact Cherokee history is rarely included in discussions integrating studies of southern Appalachia.
Perhaps Cherokee spirits want this integrated now. We know domination and oppression are indigenous to most cultures. Most groups tend toward imperialism, break off and repeat the very behaviors they wanted to end as they reorganize into a new group.
I believe the land which I steward (formerly occupied by wild turkey) is sacred land. Bear, coyote, fox, opossum, feral cats, etc. visit. They know it is safe here. I often feel the Cherokee presence here.
I do not know why the short wave radio was chosen as the forum to get me the message. "Shortwaves broadcast from the Earth's surface are reflected by the upper atmosphere and can travel great distances around the planet."
Maybe like short waves, the Cherokee are traveling to tell me something. Maybe it is time to connect the dots. |

Hi Susan !
Oddly enough I was in a Stony (Nakoda) First Nations area here in Alberta on the weekend. They have a hotel establishment on the way to the mountains. I have no doubt that the Cherokee should be a welcomed part of Appalacian history and stories of the area. Which animal is speaking to you most or has seemed to have chosen you? I suspect what this animal represents will assist you in your approach regarding the Cherokee.
Love and Light and Sychronicities,

Thanks for your reply, Gem. The radio continues to turn itself on and off. I focus on my last thought at the time and what the radio says. Very interesting!
I imagine my totem is a bird. I love flight and have taken flying lessons. Of late there have been a lot of epiphanies and so much more than what we 'see.'
